An integration needs explicit rules for retries, duplicate events, authentication, provider limits and partial failures. We identify the system of record and the information required to diagnose a failed transfer. Can you connect a third-party system that has an API?

We first review documentation, credentials, permissions, rate limits and test access. Those determine which workflows are possible and which depend on provider approval or account capabilities.

How do you avoid duplicate data during imports or webhook retries?

We define record identifiers, update rules and repeat-safe operations around the provider’s data model. The implementation should distinguish a new event from a retry and provide a way to review transfers that cannot be completed automatically.

Document request and response schemas, pagination, error formats, compatibility, and deprecation plans. For healthcare, property, or education integrations, map domain standards such as FHIR to the versions and permissions the provider supports.

Verify webhook signatures and replay windows. Use idempotency keys, bounded retries, dead-letter handling, and reconciliation to recover from duplicate, missing, delayed, or out-of-order events.

Observability without data leakage

Use correlation IDs, service metrics, redacted logs, and actionable alerts. Define rate limits, timeouts, backpressure, and failure ownership so an external outage does not silently damage downstream records.

Agree on applicable requirements, controls, and acceptance evidence before implementation. Readiness work supports your compliance program; it is not a certification or a guarantee of compliance. Final scope depends on your data, vendors, and operational responsibilities.
